AUSTIN, Texas – Nov. 29, 2016 – Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of information storage solutions, today introduced its line of Business Continuity Appliances along with its Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solution for protecting both physical and virtual workloads on premise and in the cloud.
Designed for small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) Idealstor’s purpose built backup appliances deliver the most aggressive Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of any Backup, Disaster Recovery (BDR) and site recovery capabilities previously not possible without spending $$$.
Idealstor DRaaS Capabilities:
Single pane of glass to manage your entire infrastructure for both backup and recovery.
Hybrid Cloud Platform offers the most reliable and efficient way to back up data securely and ensure that it is recoverable in any disaster scenario. On-premise servers are protected on the backup appliances and mirrored automatically to the Cloud, improving fault tolerance while reducing the reliance on bandwidth speed.
Instant Virtualization allows backups of on premise servers to be virtualized and started either locally on the Backup appliance itself or remotely in the secure cloud, in mere seconds.
Automated Backup Verification with Screenshots
Automated Backup verification with screenshots provides complete peace of mind by automatically validating backup integrity. Following backups, the solution virtualizes the backups on the appliance, boots them up to verify recoverability and to detect any backup concerns. These screenshots are then sent via e-mail to the administrator. Scripts can be used to verify applications as well.
Time-Based Cloud Retention
Idealstor’s unique billing model takes the guesswork out of cloud billing. Storage for appliances is based on time-frames versus trying to estimate how many gigabytes a customer may need; available as a 1 year or infinite cloud retention. It establishes a predictable billing model for customers. One flat monthly price, no data cap and no overages.
All data is protected with AES 256-bit encryption at the source, in transit and in the cloud. Ability to encrypt per appliance or per protected machine to meet compliance regulations.
Broad Operating System Support
Idealstor Flashback supports Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX and Linux operating systems. Granular recovery is included for Exchange, Sharepoint and SQL servers.
Idealstor Flashback actively monitors backups, and when a ransomware footprint is detected, Flashback notifies admins that they have a likely ransomware attack on their hands. From there, recovery is simply a matter of restoring from a previous backup.
“Ransomware has waged a war on businesses and has become one of the biggest cyber security threats in the world. Hackers have extorted businesses and institutions for more than $209 million in ransomware payments in the first three months of 2016 alone and is on pace to be a $1 billion a year crime. Flashback from Idealstor provides the security to recover from such attacks within seconds to return to business,” said Nandan Arora CTO for Idealstor.

No penalty-Same Backup System just different media to scale your backup storage by 25%
AUSTIN, TX— April 14, 2015 — Leading manufacturer of disk-to-disk backup solutions, Idealstor today announced the release of its 8TB removable disk cartridge for use with their line of removable disk backup systems. This new capacity disk can be used with Idealstor backup systems using SAS Interface and offer a 2TB increase in storage capacity per removable drive bay from previous capacities.
Idealstor manufactures removable disk backup systems that are designed to replace tape backup. Systems range in capacity from one removable drive up to eight. This 8TB SATA disk brings the max capacity of the Idealstor backup system up to a total of 64TB of RAW storage.
Unlike most disk-to-disk backup systems on the market today that are designed for storing data like NAS, SAN or RAID systems, Idealstor uses a combination of hardware and software to make the disks ejectable so they can be used for off-site storage of data and for disaster recovery. Idealstor media is unique in the removable disk market in that they utilize non-proprietary 3.5-inch SATA drives as backup media. This helps keep the total cost of ownership down for companies of all sizes.
The Idealstor 8TB removable disk cartridges are available for purchase fully formatted for only $599.

Archiving and data backup company, Idealstor, releases 6TB WORM disks to create the fastest and largest WORM Appliance with a capacity of up to 48TB raw data.
Austin, TX – November 20, 2014 – Idealstor announced today the release of a removable 6TB Write-Oconce, Read-Many (WORM) disk for use in their four- or eight-bay WORM Appliances. This new disk is an increase of 33 percent capacity over previous generations of WORM disks and yields a staggering 48TB capacity for the eight-bay WORM appliance. Idealstor encourages a trade-up for all current optical jukebox users to their disk-based WORM Appliances as optical jukeboxes now are obsolete.
Refrigerator-sized jukeboxes with limited capacity and expensive, slow media are outdated. With a fully scalable solution, Idealstor offers the fastest and largest WORM-compliant appliance on the market. The archiving solution is unmatched with speeds of up to 6Gb/s and seek times of less than 10ms. Additionally, the solution provides the overall reliability of disk media and the removable cartridges are designed to be repeatedly ejected.
“The need for gigantic, expensive and technologically antiquated optical jukeboxes is gone,” said Nandan Arora, chief technology officer for Idealstor. “Let’s face it, technology evolves and optical jukebox manufacturers haven’t kept up. Idealstor uses a 6TB WORM disk with our standard rackmount appliances. It’s tens of thousands of dollars less than the average optical juke system and has a capacity of 48TB raw data. Plus, it’s completely scalable. We beat both optical jukeboxes and tape libraries in size, speed, reliability and portability.”
Idealstor understands that optical jukebox technologies are stagnating and that many vendors already have left the market creating a hardship on customers. From now through December 24, Idealstor is offering an incentive to IT professionals using optical jukeboxes to trade up to Idealstor’s WORM solution. Idealstor Introduces SAS Interface Removable Storage
Idealstor’s next generation SAS interface removable storage shrinks backup window for businesses with large amounts of data.
Austin, Texas – November 07, 2014 – Idealstor releases the first removable disk-based storage system using the SAS interface. This provides faster, more reliable and scalable data storage for backup archiving and disaster recovery.
Using SAS helps improve the already impressive speeds of the Idealstor product portfolio of backup systems, which includes the Teralyte, Backup Appliance and Write Once Read Many Appliance (WORM). It doubles the speed of the previous generation’s system from 3Gb/s to up to 6Gb/s.
“All IT Administrators want their data backup and recovery to be faster,” said Nandan Arora, chief technology officer at Idealstor. “Our existing customers, who are used to working directly with removable disks for their backup, will appreciate the speed the new SAS controller brings. When compared to the first generation of hardware, which used PATA drives, this fifth generation of systems is so much faster. Customers using tape or cloud backup will be amazed at how quickly the Idealstor system will back up their data while giving them scalability and flexibility.”
The systems can scale to 48TB of raw data and with removable disks provide unlimited storage to meet compliance requirements and retention policies.
With the growth of data being explosive, the need for a quicker method to store that data is a necessity. Businesses that continue to use tape will no longer experience the associated headaches or costs of continued maintenance related to tape. The removable disk solution is more cost effective than tape. With the ability to do data deduplication, more data can be stored on a disk than can be stored on tape. The Idealstor solution makes tape obsolete.
“You can store an astronomical amount of data on a disk, especially with data deduplication. It doesn’t require maintenance or calibration,” continued Arora. “With our removable SAS interface solution, customers receive the ability to backup more data and complete that backup faster than ever before.”
Offering a complete solution, which includes backup software as well as hardware that now features SAS interface, Idealstor continues the tradition of customer-first thought leadership for the fastest, most reliable and secure data storage solution.

Idealstor, a global leader of removable disk solutions, announced today the launch of an affordable solution for meeting compliance requirements. Idealstor (WORM) Write Once Read Many, will offer the largest and fastest removable WORM disk on the market with media costs at less than 20 cents a GB.
Building upon Idealstor’s removable disk technology which replaces tapes, customers can now incorporate WORM technology with removable disks which offer larger capacity, better reliability and faster speeds than tape or optical media, to deal with regulatory requirements.
Business relevant data must be stored in an unchangeable format for “compliance“ reasons in accordance with country-specific legal requirements. WORM technology is considered a standard for addressing these regulatory requirements such as SEC 17a–4, NASD 3110 (now FINRA), DOD 5015, Sarbanes–Oxley, and HIPAA among others. Failure to comply can impose severe penalties on US companies.
The Idealstor WORM appliance is easy to integrate into the existing network, the appliance runs on Windows 2008 R2 server. Any application can write data to the WORM disk, via CIFS or NFS, without any need for a proprietary API.
The Idealstor WORM appliance will be available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 disk configurations with each disk scaling up to 4TB of Raw Data. Each disk can be swapped just like tape to add additional capacity.
“The cost associated with disk based WORM technology has been very expensive” said Nandan Arora, chief technology officer at Idealstor. “The ability to access archived data directly from the file system quickly, scale as data grows, and to do so at a cost effective price is what the Idealstor appliance will offer.” The Idealstor WORM appliance will help customers to migrate data not only from outdated jukeboxes, but also technically obsolete spinning disk archive solutions based on proprietary hardware.
Idealstor will be able to offer customers simplified deployment and operation of disk based storage and take advantage of compliance enabling features such as WORM data authenticity, time based file retention and extended file security. Idealstor will now be able to market a comprehensive archiving solution for partners and customers requiring archiving solutions for Enterprise Content Management, email archiving, media and entertainment, video surveillance, file archiving and many other archive enabled applications.

Idealstor is a manufacturer of rugged removable disk backup systems that are designed to completely replace tape media for backup and disaster recovery. Combining the best of disk and tape, Idealstor offers a fast, affordable and reliable backup system for any sized business.
Idealstor manufactures removable disk backup systems that are designed to replace or augment tape backup by using SATA disks as portable backup media. Systems range in capacity from 1 removable drive bay up to 8 with the ability to use up to a 4TB disk per bay (max system capacity currently 32TB). Unlike most disk to disk backup systems on the market today that are simply designed for storing data like NAS, SAN or RAID, Idealstor uses a combination of hardware and software making the disks ejectable so they can be sent offsite for storage and disaster recovery.
With the addition of Drive Backup Server from Paragon Software Group, Idealstor is now able to offer a revolutionary hardware solution that lets you fully recover your servers or virtual machines anytime, anywhere. Drive Backup Server from Paragon Software utilizes sector-based backups, giving server administrators the ability to image an entire server including files, data and applications. When the backup is complete, Paragon lets you dial in the level of recovery you need including file-based recovery, bare metal system restore and even individual email recovery for Microsoft Exchange.
“We are happy to welcome Idealstor as our newest partner,” said Tom Fedro, president of Paragon Software Group. “Idealstor hardware paired with our Drive Backup Server software provides a complete turnkey solution for customers.”
Traditionally these Paragon system images were sent to local disk storage, which could then be backed up to tape or the cloud to store this critical data offsite. By combining Paragon’s software with Idealstor removable disk media, images can now be backed up straight to portable disk media, which in turn can then be stored in any location — offering companies a truly powerful and flexible backup and disaster recovery solution.
“We are very excited to announce our partnership with Paragon Software Group and to be able to offer their award winning disaster recovery software with our backup systems” said Nandan Arora, chief technology officer at Idealstor. “We’ve been in the backup game since 2003 and have never come across a more complete software solution. By bundling Paragon’s Drive Backup Server with our removable disk hardware we feel we have an unmatched solution in the market that will allow our customers and channel partners even more options when it comes to protecting their critical data.”

Upgrades are available for network based backups and for backing up live/active databases such as Microsoft SQL and Exchange. In addition to iBac, each Bantam ships with Idealstor’s disk management software, IDM. IDM allows users to format, label and eject the Bantam cartridges and ensures data integrity and that drive letters remain consistent as Bantam media is swapped out.
“For years we’ve offered businesses an enterprise class removable disk backup solution designed to completely replace tape based backup,” said Nandan Arora, Chief Technology Officer for Idealstor. “As much as our solutions were an affordable alternative to tape, there was a large segment of the market that needed a solution like ours but didn’t have the amount of data or the budget to afford even our entry level products. We finally have a solution designed specifically for the SMB with the Bantam. Out of the gate we’ll offer a range of capacity options with disk cartridges to fit the backup needs of most small businesses. In addition, the bantam is USB3 compatible and comes bundled with our backup software iBac. We expect the Bantam to be well received and starting at only $199.00 it should fit the needs and budget of any SMB.”

Gaithersburg, MD – April 5, 2010 – Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today that their backup and recovery software, iBac 5.0, now offers support for Microsoft Exchange 2010.
iBac is designed to backup Windows servers and databases and offers native format backup, drag and drop restore and file level data de-duplication. With the ability to support Exchange 2010, iBac 5.0 now supports mailbox and individual email recovery.
Mailbox and individual email recovery is made possible by using Idealstor’s OVS – Open Volume Snapshot – module. Unlike most backup software on the market, iBac 5.0 from Idealstor consists of only two backup licenses. iBac Single Server is available for simple file servers or servers that do not contain open files or databases. OVS is available for database servers like Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint and others or for servers that have live/open files. When OVS is used to backup a server all open files and databases are successfully backed up without having to stop or start services and without having data corruption or skipped files. When iBac 5.0 is used to backup an Exchange server OVS backs up the information store or the database where the mailboxes and emails are kept. Then using the Recovery Database (RDB) within Exchange 2010 you can use the Restore-Mailbox cmdlet to extract data from an RDB. This method of backup is far faster for backup and recovery than competing methods as each mailbox/email doesn’t need to be touched in order to backup an Exchange database.
“We are proud to announce that with the support of Exchange 2010 iBac 5.0 now has the ability to recover individual mailboxes or emails”, said Nandan Arora, chief technology officer at Idealstor. “For years our customers have requested this functionality and the only way for mailboxes or emails to be restored would be to use expensive 3rd party utilities. Our method of recovery does not require a brick-level backup or having to backup each mailbox/email. iBac 5.0 allows you to backup the entire database and you can simply mount the database to get the mailboxes or emails needed. It’s that easy.”
GAITHERSBURG, MD—September 1, 2009—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today that the release of a 2TB removable SATA disk for use with their line of removable disk backup devices. This new capacity disk can be used with any Idealstor backup system and offers a 500GB increase in storage space per removable drive bay from previously available capacities.
Idealstor manufactures removable disk backup systems that are designed to replace or augment tape backup. Systems range in capacity from 1 removable drive bay up to 8. This 2TB SATA disk brings the capacity of each Idealstor backup system up to a total of 16TB. Unlike most disk to disk backup systems on the market today that are designed for storing data like NAS, SAN or RAID systems, Idealstor uses a combination of hardware and software to make the disks ejectable so they can be used for offsite storage of data and for disaster recovery. Idealstor media is unique in the removable disk market in that they utilize non-proprietary 3.5” SATA2 drives as backup media. This helps keep the total cost of ownership down for companies that use Idealstor for backup. In addition, for companies already using Idealstor, the 2TB disks will enable them to simply purchase larger disks as their data increases to expand the size of their system. The Idealstor 2TB SATA disks are available through Idealstor’s channel partners as a kit that includes the formatted disk and one Idealstor removable disk caddy.
“The 2TB disk media further extends our capacity advantage over or main competition which is tape,” said Nandan Arora, chief technology officer at Idealstor. “This new size disk means that our entry level product that competes head to head with technologies such as LTO-3 and LTO-4, the Teralyte, has a capacity of 2TB per removable drive bay without compression. This system has a retail price of $1995.00 so for a cost far less than that of a comparable tape system, companies can get larger capacities, faster transfer rates and in our opinion a much more reliable backup.”
iBac VIP was launched in 2008 and offers an enterprise backup solution for VMware virtual servers. The goal of iBac VIP was to offer an easy to use and easy to license backup solution for VMware virtual environments. The original release of iBac VIP was licensed based on the number of ESX hosts that were being run regardless of the number of VMs or processors on the host server. With the release of iBac VIP for Virtual Center, Idealstor seeks to further simplify VMware backups by offering backup administrators the options to choose between licensing the product per ESX host or Virtual Center. Suggested retail price for iBac VIP for Virtual Center is $5495.00.
iBac VIP ties into the VCB framework provided by VMware. Rather than having to run scripts or purchase expensive backup agents to backup each virtual machine, iBac VIP offers an easy use interface that allows backups administrators to efficiently manage their VMware backups. VIP backups can be managed from the proxy/backup server or from a remote machine running the VIP management console. Scheduling, advanced logging and email reports are available for all backup jobs. Recovery can be done at the file level or entire virtual machines can be recovered on the proxy or a specific ESX host.
“When we entered the VMware backup market we realized that most backup vendors were ignoring the flexibility and cost savings that were inherent to virtualization”, said Nandan Arora, chief technical officer at Idealstor. “Virtualization offers a unique set of tools that enables companies to consolidate servers but also to quickly provision new server instances as needed without having to incur the costs of implementing a physical server. Most software companies on the market today ignored this and released VMware backup solutions that are tied to the number of virtual machines, physical processors or ESX hosts running on the network. iBac VIP for Virtual Center was designed to turn this licensing model upside down. VIP for Virtual Center lets you backup any number of virtual machines regardless of the number of processors or ESX hosts being run. The only limitation is that the backup proxy server will need to be able to handle the load, but we feel that iBac VIP is affordable enough that if another proxy server needs to be added to handle the load, we will still be far more competitive than the existing players in the VMware backup space.”
GAITHERSBURG, MD—December 3, 2008—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today the release of an enterprise backup solution for VMware virtual servers. iBac Virtual Infrastructure Proxy (iBac VIP) is designed to offer an easy to use and affordable solution for backing up data in a VMware virtual server environment.
iBac VIP is not simply a modification of iBac Data Protection Software, Idealstor’s backup solution that has been on the market since 2005. iBac VIP was written from the ground up with VMware backup in mind and is designed specifically for VMware virtual machines running in an ESX server environment. VIP is licensed per ESX server regardless of the number of virtual machines or processors running on the ESX server. This enables companies to quickly add new VMs without having to worry about purchasing additional backup agents for each virtual server.
iBac VIP ties into the VCB framework provided by VMware. Because of this, the load from running backups is removed from the ESX server and offloaded to a dedicated 2003 backup server. This ensures that backups will not put a large load on the ESX server which can affect the performance of virtual machines. VIP can backup data residing on a fibre channel or iSCSI SAN or can backup data directly from the ESX server over the LAN. VIP offers a simple user interface that provides scheduling, logging email reporting and the ability to backup multiple ESX servers on the LAN or in remote data centers.
Because iBac VIP is designed to run on a Windows 2003 Server, VIP can be tightly integrated into Idealstor’s range of removable disk backup solutions. This enables VIP jobs to be sent straight to the Idealstor removable drive bays which can then be sent offsite in place of tape for offsite storage and disaster recovery. While it is not required to use Idealstor equipment as the VIP proxy server, the Idealstor Backup Appliance comes pre-loaded with Windows 2003 Server enabling this one solution to eliminate the need of having to use a separate server, tape library and backup software to backup VMware virtual machines.
“We released iBac in 2005 with the goal of offering an easy to use yet robust backup application for Windows servers”, said Nandan Arora, chief technical officer at Idealstor. “Over the years our clients have increasingly migrated to VMware and reached out to us to help them with their virtual server backups. Rather than simply modifying our existing software for use with VMware like most software companies have done, we developed VIP from the ground up with the unique requirements of VMware in mind. Because VIP is licensed per ESX server, licensing is less complicated and is far more affordable than having to purchase expensive and resource consuming backup agents for each VM.”
Idealstor manufactures removable disk backup systems that are designed to replace or augment tape backup. Idealstor backup systems are available for organizations of all sizes with systems available with 1 removable drive bay up to 8 with removable disk capacities up to 12TB per system. Unlike most disk to disk backup systems on the market today that are designed for storing data, Idealstor uses a combination of hardware and software to make the disks removable so they can be used for offsite storage of data and disaster recovery. Idealstor removable media is unique in that they utilize non-proprietary 3.5” SATA2 drives as backup media. These drives can be purchased through regular retailers or as a kit from an Idealstor channel partner that includes their ruggedized removable disk caddy and a protective carrying case.
“This announcement is especially important for their SMB range of products”, says Jeff Main, President of Questeq an Idealstor premier channel partner based in Pennsylvania. “We have been selling Idealstor backup systems for a few years now and have had a number of wins with their Teralyte product which targets the SMB. We used to sell LTO-3 drives for these customers because of the capacity LTO offered. We have since switched to selling the Idealstor Teralyte because it not only offers faster transfer rates and more reliable backups, their native capacity is nearly 4 times that of LTO-3 and twice that of LTO-4. Now with 1.5TB drives available this product is even more compelling as we can offer up to 1.5TB of removable media capacity/cartridge for only $1995.00.”
“We are very excited to announce that we have successfully tested and certified the 1.5TB SATA2 drives for use with our removable disk backup systems,” said Ben Ginster, channel marketing manager at Idealstor. “This increase in capacity offers a major benefit to our existing and potential clients. Without having to upgrade their backup system, our capacities just increased 50%. This means that existing clients can simply purchase larger disks as their data increases rather than having to upgrade the entire drive and backup media like one would have to do with tape.”
GAITHERSBURG, MD. – August 21, 2008 — Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk to disk backup solutions, today announced interoperability between its removable disk backup appliances and VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB). When used in combination with the Idealstor Backup Appliance, VCB enables companies to easily and affordably backup virtual servers by sending VCB backups straight to Idealstor’s removable SATA disk technology which can then be used in place of tape for backup and offsite storage.
VCB solves one of the biggest hurdles that backup administrators face when implementing a VMware virtual environment by providing a built in utility that quickly backs up virtual servers without using up valuable system resources or having to purchase expensive backup agents to backup each VM. A dedicated Windows 2003 proxy server or backup server is required to run VCB in addition to some form of removable backup media to provide offsite storage. This poses a problem for backup administrators because this adds two additional components – 2003 Server and backup system – to what can be an already costly and complex VMware installation.
Because the Idealstor Backup Appliance comes pre-configured with Windows 2003 Server it is an ideal solution for running VCB. VCB can be installed directly on the Idealstor Backup Appliance and the backup jobs can be sent straight to the Idealstor removable SATA drives. These disks can then be used for local storage or removed for offsite backup like a tape. The benefit to a backup administrator is that this one device takes the place of a dedicated 2003 VCB proxy server and tape library and drastically reduces the cost of implementing a VMware backup strategy.
“We provide the best of disk and tape by using SATA disks as ejectable backup media for offsite storage”, says Ben Ginster, channel marketing manager at Idealstor. “We have many clients that are using VMware and nearly all of them were confused as to the best way to backup their virtual servers. VCB is a great tool but having to add another 2003 Server and backup solution into the mix made implementing VMware even more costly and complex. Now that we have certified and are supporting VCB our existing clients and future customers can be assured that Idealstor will work in their VMware environment and using our Backup Appliances as their proxy server and offsite backup solution will enable them to save them both money and time when setting up VMware.”
GAITHERSBURG, Md. — September 24, 2007 — Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk to disk backup solutions, announced today that CONNECT Computer, a Value Added Reseller (VAR) based in Fairfield, CT, has implemented the Idealstor 4 Bay Backup Appliance to slash their backup and restore time. The 4 Bay, which replaces 3 DLT tape libraries, is being used to streamline backup and restore for their ASP (Application Service Provider) and MSP (Managed Services) divisions that offer hosting for client applications and servers in their Connecticut data center.
Idealstor manufactures removable/ejectable disk backup systems that are designed to augment or completely replace tape as backup and offsite storage media. The Idealstor Backup Appliance has been on the market for over 4 years offering a fast, reliable and portable alternative to tape based backup systems. Each Idealstor system uses industry standard SATA disk as the target for backup data and as offsite media. Systems range from 1 removable drive up to 8 and can be used by SMB’s or corporate data centers. Disk capacities mirror that of the major SATA manufacturers. Uncompressed capacities of 120GB, 200GB, 300GB, 400GB, 500GB, 750GB and 1TB are currently available.
“We recently had one of our DLT tape libraries fail for the third time”, said Alan Wittstein, President of Connect Computer. “We had been in discussions with Idealstor as they were looking to partner with us to help them deliver their ejectable disk products here in Connecticut and New York. Rather than seeing our tape failure as a disaster, I viewed it as an opportunity. Idealstor was willing to ship us one of their 4 Bay backup systems to prove how the solution could help us in our data center. Their product is a Windows 2003 Server and offered us the ability to backup to 4 removable drive bays using any capacity SATA disk available. We bought a few of the new terabyte Hitachi disks to use with their removable drive caddies. We were able to quickly hook the 4 Bay up to the network via our GB backbone and even install our existing Backup Exec software on the 4 Bay and configure it as our backup server.”
“We had the system set up quickly and easily configured our software to backup to the 4 Bay drives. Our backup times were cut in half and the removable disk media seemed to be a reliable alternative to sending tapes offsite. What really sold us though was the first time we had a client call to ask us to do a restore. As we are a data center, we host client applications, data and servers at our facility and were using the 4 Bay to backup client data. In the past if a client called, we would have to retrieve their backup tapes, catalog the tapes, get the data off the tape and finally restore the file for the client. This could take up to a few hours depending on the age of the data needing recovery. As we offer this as a managed service, there was an expense that we have to cover every time we had to do this. With Idealstor, the entire restore process only took a matter of minutes. The multi-bay configuration of the Idealstor not only allows us to do our nightly backups, but allows us to copy them to ejectable disks for our off-site rotation and lets us retain a live online copy here at CONNECT for immediate data recovery. That was when it hit me what a valuable tool this new backup system was. Reducing the total time spent recovering data from 2 hours to 5 minutes immediately showed me the ROI that this device provided. The Idealstor is also now the center of our managed off-site backup solution as ejectable disk has proven to be an easy to use and affordable offsite storage solution for our clients. We don’t plan on pushing tape out to clients anytime soon.”
The Idealstor Teralyte is designed to offer the small to medium sized business a fast, affordable and reliable alternative to tape backup. Starting at $1995, the Teralyte is directly targeted to the SMB that is looking for an alterative to tape. Prior to the 1TB disks, capacities for each Teralyte removable drive bay were 200, 300, 400, 500 and 750GB, still larger than most tape formats. The 1TB disks will now enable the Teralyte to be positioned to backup even more data giving larger companies an attractive alternative to their tape backup solutions.
In addition to being available for the Teralyte product, the new 1TB disks will also be available for Idealstor entire line of removable disk backup solutions. With removable disk capacities of up to 1TB per Idealstor bay, Idealstor backup systems can now support up to 8TB (uncompressed) of removable disk backup. Each Idealstor disk ships already formatted and comes installed in Idealstor’s rugged disk caddy and protective carrying case. Each disk/caddy combination is designed to be transported letting backup administrators send disks offsite just like they would a tape.
Dylan O’Connor, Chief Technology Officer at Thrive Networks, an Idealstor Premier Channel partner is excited to offer this new capacity disk. “We are firm believers in removable disk backup being an affordable and reliable alternative to tape backup offerings. We were drawn to the Idealstor solution out of necessity as we had clients that were tired of using tape and we needed to find them an alternative. Now that the 1TB disks are available, the Idealstor Teralyte not only is technologically superior to tape backup, but now nobody can touch what they offer for the price points available. I can now sell my clients a 1TB Teralyte backup system and still come in less than today’s popular tape backup options. If I were to look at quoting an LTO-3 drive, the cost would be about $H1 more than the Teralyte and the largest capacity available is 400GB native. Tape just can’t compete.”
“We are very excited to announce that we have successfully tested and certified these new 1TB drives for use with the Teralyte and all of our removable disk backup systems,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager at Idealstor. “When we first went to market with our removable disk backup solutions in 2003, the largest disk available was 250GB. Many of the early adopters of our technology bought into removable disk because of the problems they had with their tape backup but also because they saw how disk capacities were about to overtake that of tape. Over the years these same clients have been able to buy larger disks as capacities have increased without having to invest in new hardware. With the new 1TB disks available, some clients have seen the capacity of their Idealstor backup solutions triple in just three years without having to do anything other than buy new backup media.”
The release of this product is a direct result of an increase in customer demand for an affordable yet scalable alternative to tape backup. Unlike the Idealstor Backup Appliance which comes installed with Windows 2003 Server, the Teralyte directly attaches to a company’s server or backup server via a SATA connection. This has enabled Idealstor to lower an entry level price point and has made Idealstor’s removable disk backup solution more affordable for the SMB. Teralyte is available in two configurations. The Teralyte H1 offers 1 removable drive bay that can accommodate any capacity/manufacturer Serial ATA disk on the market. The Teralyte H2 offers two drive bays and backup capacities up to 1.5TB (assuming 750GB SATA disks). Retail pricing for the Teralyte H1 is $1995.00 and the Teralyte H2 lists at $2995.00.
The Teralyte differs from other removable disk backup systems that target the SMB by offering affordable and non-proprietary hard drives that offer users the ability to use the largest disks currently on the market. Teralyte uses any capacity/manufacturer SATA I or SATA II disk available. 750GB SATA disks now average less than $300/disk and come with a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty. The low media cost and the attractive price of the Teralyte system make this offering an ideal solution for any small to medium sized business. Each Teralyte system comes with Idealstor’s rugged removable disk caddy and protective storage box. Additional caddies and cases can be purchased for companies looking to create an offsite rotation of disks.
In addition, the Idealstor Teralyte comes bundled with Idealstor’s own backup software, iBac 4.0. iBac 4.0 provides backup administrators an easy to use backup application that keeps data in its native format and performs full backups in the time it takes to run an incremental backup.
“The Teralyte is a direct response to what our smaller clients have been looking for,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager, for Idealstor. “Backup administrators have grown tired of being locked into proprietary backup systems – whether it be LTO or some of the newer removable disk backup solutions. Not only are they forced to buy a certain companies media, they get locked into the never ending cycle of upgrades as the supposed latest and greatest technology becomes available. SMB’s are looking for an affordable and flexible solution to their increasing backup requirements. The Teralyte solves this problem by allowing administrators to use any manufacturer or capacity SATA disk on the market. In addition, the Teralyte is priced for the small to medium sized business. We have removed the server component of our higher end backup solution allowing companies to directly attach the Teralyte to their server or backup server. We have already seen a great response to this new product and feel that this will offer a logical and affordable alternative to lower priced tape solutions and other proprietary solutions that are now entering the market.”
“We are honored to be named as a finalist for the ‘Storage Products of the Year’ award,” said Ben Ginster, channel marketing manager for Idealstor. “The FrankeNAS has been quietly gaining acceptance and converting companies away from tape and solving the problems associated with disk-to-disk-to tape-backup solutions. Being nominated for this award is especially gratifying because there were a number of other quality products in this class this year and the FrankeNAS was chosen above these others as a finalist.”

GAITHERSBURG, MD—December 18, 2006—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of ejectable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today the release of Idealstor 750GB disk for use with all Idealstor and FrankeNAS backup systems. This new capacity disk media increases the amount that each existing and future Idealstor customer can backup using a single Idealstor removable drive bay. Each Idealstor disk comes formatted NTFS with an Idealstor Caddy and Idealstor Protective Carrying Case which is then used to transport the disk media offsite.
The Idealstor Backup Appliance has been available as an alternative to tape backup since 2003. Each Idealstor Backup Appliance comes installed with Windows 2003 Server and acts as host for a company’s backup software and the target for their backup data. Idealstor is compatible with most of today’s major backup packages and their own proprietary replication and data protection software, iBac 4.0. The Idealstor Backup Appliance comes configured with 1 to 8 removable drive bays. The Idealstor FrankeNAS, which combines storage and backup, is configured with up to 2TB of RAID and 4 removable drive bays.
The new 750GB disks will increase the capacity of all existing systems that have been sold over the last 4 years without the need for existing clients to purchase new hardware. With capacities of up to 750GB per Idealstor Bay, the Idealstor 1 Bay can now support up to 750GB native and the Idealstor 8 Bay up to 6TB of native data. Idealstor uses industry standard 3.5 inch hard drives from manufactures from Seagate and Hitachi.
Jeff Cobb, Information Technology Manager at National Renal Healthcare has been an Idealstor client since 2004. “When we first purchased our 8 Bay system as a replacement for our tape backups, 300GB disks were the largest capacities on the market. Over time our 2.4TB backup system has now increased to a 6TB backup system and all we’ve had to do is purchase new disks as our data grew.”
Compared to tape backup or other disk to disk backup products, this expandability makes the Idealstor Backup Appliance a truly unique solution.
“We are excited to announce the latest addition to our drive family. This will benefit all existing and future customers,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Manager at Idealstor. “When we began selling this system in 2003, capacities maxed out at 250GB/bay and we only supported IDE or Parallel disks. We have always prided ourselves on being able to support our existing clients even as capacities have increased and technology has evolved. Rather than lock our clients into a system that requires the ever present upgrade like tape or proprietary disk systems, we offer our clients the ability to expand their capacity by simply buying new disks as need.”
GAITHERSBURG, MD—July 10, 2006—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of ejectable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today the release of Ibac 4.0 CDP, which now includes Continuous Data Protection capabilities for Windows servers. In addition to offering the ability to recover and restore lost or corrupted data from any point in time, Ibac 4.0 allows users to continuously backup systems on a byte level and is unique in its ability to do so using removable hard drives.
Ibac 4.0 separates backup and continuous backup into individual modules, offering users increased flexibility for data protection. For example, the software enables end users to assign continuous backups to servers containing the most critical data, while allowing the remaining servers to run on scheduled basis, if desired. In addition, Ibac 4.0 allows users to continuously backup open files and databases like Exchange and SQL without the use of expensive remote agents.
Unlike other pseudo CDP products which just replicate data giving you only the most recent version of a file, Ibac 4.0 can restore data to any point in time using the change logs to create unlimited point in time snapshots. This technology gives users the ability to restore systems to the state in which they existed just prior to an outage, or data corruption.
The software package is not only compatible with Idealstor’s own backup solutions, including the FrankeNAS, Idealstor Backup Appliance and Idealstor SATA, but also with any other Windows server appliance, offering customers the flexibility to use this software with their existing hardware. Because Ibac 4.0 also provides an added layer of data protection through its ability to operate with ejectable disk media, backups can be quickly and easily removed for transport to an offsite storage location.
“Continuous data protection has become a vital functionality for our customers that need to backup critical data on a daily basis,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor. “There are many other vendors on the market that offer some CDP capabilities yet fail to meet all of a users needs. Here at Idealstor we offer our customers a complete backup, restore and high availability solution for data, system files and databases wrapped in one package out of the box.”
GAITHERSBURG, MD—May 1, 2006—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of ejectable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today the release of Idealstor SATA, a backup and recovery system with ejectable SATA hard drives that increases backup speed. Idealstor is offering SATA as an additional option for customers and will continue to produce the company’s original Backup Appliance with PATA disks, providing clients with the flexibility to choose which type of backup best fits their disaster recovery needs.
The release of this product is a direct result of an increase in customer requests for a SATA based appliance. Increasingly, SATA is being perceived in the market as the future of backup and storage, and through this release, Idealstor is demonstrating its commitment to the support of such evolving technologies. Idealstor expects the offering to be welcomed by those seeking a single vendor source for their current and future backup needs.
Idealstor Selected by POWDR Corporation to Backup Mountains of Critical Data for Ski Resorts
World-class ski resort company signs deal to use Idealstor’s FrankeNAS and Ibac data protection software for all backup and recovery
GAITHERSBURG, MD—February 27, 2006—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of ejectable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today it has been selected by POWDR Corp of Park City, UT to provide secure backup and recovery capabilities for its critical data. An IT team at Park City Mountain Resort, one of North America’s top five ski resorts and a venue for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, will use Idealstor’s FrankeNAS appliance and Ibac data protection software to backup data for the entire family of POWDR vacation resorts including Park City Mountain Resort in Utah, Boreal Ridge and Alpine Meadows in California and Mt. Bachelor in Oregon.
A majority of the IT infrastructure for all POWDR resorts is managed at the data center located at Park City Mountain Resort. Prior to selecting Idealstor, the company had long experienced difficulties restoring from tape, and needed a more robust backup solution to handle increasing amounts of data locally and at their sister resorts. POWDR turned to Idealstor to provide tape free comprehensive system that combines storage, backup, restore, and offsite capabilities for disaster recovery.
POWDR chose the Idealstor FrankeNAS because the organization required up to 1TB of local storage but also needed a backup and restore solution that incorporated offsite storage of backup media. Idealstor’s FrankeNAS is a multi-functional system that combines RAID5 storage for redundant local access to data and ejectable bays to use disks as offsite storage media. The FrankeNAS that POWDR implemented enabled them to store up to 1.1TB of data locally and backup up to 1TB of data to ejectable disk media.
In addition to software for managing backups, Park City Mountain Resort also needed the ability to restore their exchange server at the mailbox level. Ibac allows them to do so by backing up the entire exchange database, and then restore the database, or individual mailboxes or folders when data is needed.
Ibac data protection software speeds up and simplifies the job of backing up critical data, by backing up data in its native format. The software’s Backup Versioning Module (BVM) allows users to run incremental backups and save any changed files in a separate folder corresponding to that date or time. The module virtualizes unchanged files to the original, providing the same experience as if a full backup was run, accomplished in the time and space required usually associated with an incremental backup.
“Large amounts of data are managed at this location, and as we extended the overall IT strategy to include our sister resorts, it became clear that we needed a backup and recovery process that was faster and more reliable than the tape we were using,” said Kenny Lentz, IT Director at Park City Mountain Resort. “Idealstor’s FrankeNAS and Ibac software provides us with the speed and the dependability we were searching for, and allows us to work with only one company for the entire solution.”
“Idealstor will be the key to allowing POWDR Corp to centrally manage, host and backup more applications from their resorts to the Park City data center,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor. “We feel this customer win further validates the strength of our offerings and highlights the undeniable trend that organizations of all types have come to realize the importance that disk will play in both onsite and offsite backup schemes.”
GAITHERSBURG, MD— February 9, 2006—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of ejectable disk-to-disk backup solutions, has announced that their flagship backup appliance, the Idealstor 4 Bay, has been awarded a CRN Test Center Award.

Idealstor’s flagship product, Idealstor Backup Appliance, is a complete backup system using ejectable, cost-effective hard drives to backup and archive data, eliminating the need for reliance on tapes. As part of the partnership, in addition to the flagship appliance, MR2 Solutions will market, distribute, and install Idealstor’s entire array of backup and storage products, including Idealstor’s FrankeNAS, an NAS-like appliance including a fully redundant RAID 5 Array combined with the removable drive functionality of the Idealstor Backup Appliance.
Protecting sensitive information from prying eyes even after it has been backed up has become increasingly important. Encryption is increasingly recommended and may eventually be mandated among the government, financial, and health sectors. Ibac 3.0 is unique in that it is the only solution that provides backup encryption onto removable disks, offering a faster and more reliable alternative than current solutions on the market that encrypt tape backup media.
“Stories of tapes going missing with critical data continue to come out in the news so we are proud to be the first to offer data encryption for backups stored on removable disk media,” noted Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor.
The original Ibac 2.0 for Windows backs up data in its native format. Now with Ibac 3.0, administrators will be able encrypt their backup data using DESX or 3DES using Ibac 3.0 target folder encryption. This will prevent unauthorized users from accessing the data on the removable backup disks when they are in transit or stored offsite.
With Idealstor’s QSR (Quick System Recovery), users can quickly boot up off the QSR disk in times of server failure. The disk contains a bare bones version of Windows Server 2003 that starts the system, and then uses Ibac to restore data in a short period of time. The result is both a lower total downtime as well as a lower cost.
“With added target file encryption features, Ibac 3.0 gives our customers the high-assurance data security our customers are telling us they are seeking,” added Ginster. “QSR increases Ibac’s functionality, allowing us to bring a new standard to the marketplace by allowing fast system recovery from a removable disk backup.”
“This partnership gives us access to product with a unique architecture, which allows us to further address the growing demand for disk-to-disk storage solutions,” said Gary Gammon, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Marketing for Bell Microproducts. “Idealstor’s family of products offers the flexibility and scalability that our resellers are looking for.”
Idealstor’s flagship product, Idealstor Backup Appliance, is a complete backup system using ejectable, cost-effective PATA drives to backup and archive data, reducing or eliminating the need for reliance on tape drives. In addition to the Idealstor Backup Appliance, Bell Microproducts will market and distribute Idealstor’s entire array of storage products. The other key hardware solution is Idealstor’s FrankeNAS, a NAS-like appliance that combines a fully redundant RAID 5 Array with the same removable-drive functionality of the Idealstor Backup Appliance. To compliment the hardware, Bell Microproducts will also carry Idealstor’s Ibac Data Protection Software, a solution for disk-to-disk applications that interacts with both Idealstor and competitive offerings’ backup hardware.
“This agreement enables us to greatly increase the number of resellers that will have direct access to purchasing our products,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor. “We chose Bell Microproducts because of its geographic scope and impressive role in the storage industry. The key to our success here at Idealstor is a strong relationship with the channel, and our partnership with Bell Microproducts allows us to expand our footprint in this important market segment.”

GAITHERSBURG, MD— October 24, 2005—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup solutions, has announced the release of two new modules to the company’s data protection software are now available to customers. Idealstor’s Server Aliasing Module (SAM) and Backup Versioning Module (BVM), two optional components for Ibac, Idealstor’s data protection software, have been upgraded to match the evolving needs of customers and further enhance their product line.
The introduction of SAM adds to Ibac high availability and failover capabilities for Windows Servers, eliminating the need for third-party products to be used alongside Ibac for these purposes. It includes “many-to-one” failover capabilities, to assist users in the event that multiple servers go down. The module continually monitors an organization’s servers, alerting systems managers via email notifications if any have crashed. Because SAM provides manual control server failovers, it allows users to verify if any are actually down before taking action, often averting missteps caused by over-automated processes.
BVM is a module designed to save on disk space by creating multiple full backups and saving them in the amount of disk space required to store an incremental. BVM allows users to run incremental backups and save any changed files in a separate folder corresponding to that date or moment in time. Thereafter, the module virtualizes any unchanged files from the original full backup to the new folder to create a new full backup. This makes it appear and provides the same pathways as if a full backup was run, all accomplished in the same time as an incremental backup usually requires. Additionally, BVM drastically reduces restoration times because users can restore any file in a click, from any of the folders created for historical purposes, rather than searching through incremental backup tapes looking for a file. BVM brings the functionality of single instance storage, a feature usually found only on the highest-end solutions, to the small to medium size business.
“Our customers provide us constant feedback on our offerings, and increasingly, based on the success they’ve achieved with our products, they are asking us to play a greater overall role in their backup and storage strategies,“ said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor. “These modules essentially answer a direct call from Idealstor customers for specific functionality like historical backups and high availability assurance. Our customers are pleased that they can now turn to us for as a single source for a comprehensive, high quality solution – and we’re proud to have earned that trust.”
The FrankeNAS is unique in the world of storage because it takes the features of a fully redundant RAID 5 Array and combines them with the removable drive functionality of the Idealstor Backup Appliance to create a complete D2D backup and storage solution. The FrankeNAS is a multi-functional appliance that uses half of its 4U capacity as a RAID 5 Array of SATA drives with capacities up to 2TB of native storage. The other half of the unit is configured with up to 4 removable Idealstor drive bays allowing for any capacity ATA drive providing up to 2TB of removable storage. This device allows backup administrators a all in one appliance where they can schedule their backup or real time replication jobs to run to the fixed RAID 5 array for nearline storage. They can then use their backup software to run during the day or at night and schedule a backup to run from the RAID array to the Idealstor removable drives to physically take that data offsite for storage and compliance.
“The value of the FrankeNAS to the VAR Channel is in the cost savings that can be easily communicated to their client base” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager at Idealstor. “Most VAR’s today are familiar with the popularity of disk to disk storage and backup as can be seen through the widespread adoption of NAS and SAN offerings as part of their product portfolio. These products do a good job of addressing the end user requirement of quickly backing up data and eliminating tape when offloading data from production servers. However, where they miss the mark is that a majority of these solutions still require tape to physically remove the data for offsite storage and archival. Where we fit in is that our solution is both D2D storage and backup allowing administrators and VAR’s to completely get rid of the tape problems that led them to disk all together. VAR’s I’ve talked with have mentioned that one of biggest sources of service calls have to do with problems with the daily routine of backing up data and many of those problems can be attributed to tape. This ends up being a cost to the end user as well as the VAR. With the proper understanding of their client’s true needs, VAR’s can easily position this product and communicate the instant ROI that will can achieved by using one 4U appliance to handle backup and storage.”
The FrankeNAS comes in various capacities of RAID 5 Arrays ranging from 300GB – 2.0TB of native storage. The removable drive capacity of each FrankenNAS ranges from 200GB – 2.0TB native of removable storage. Unit list prices range from $9,995 to $24,995. The FrankeNAS acts as the host for a user’s backup software and is configured as a Windows 2003 Server with Dual Xeon processors that comes standard with fully redundant system drives and power supplies.

“We are all familiar with the popularity of disk to disk backup and the proliferation of NAS devices at companies around the world. This trend will continue to increase as the amount of data expands and the need to store and retain data becomes more important.” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor. “Where we saw a need for a new solution was that clients were purchasing multiple NAS devices to backup and store their data and then they were purchasing multiple tape drives or removable disk devices to backup and take that data offsite after it was staged to the NAS device. Managing multiple devices from different vendors creates an administrative nightmare for backup administrators and also takes up valuable rack space with multiple devices essentially working on the same task. We decided to come out with an all in one backup and storage appliance that would allow our clients to physically store their data in a redundant RAID 5 Array and then backup that data as they see fit to the Idealstor removable drives for offsite storage and compliance.”

Ibac – Data Protection Software replicates data at a high speed onto a target disk. Ibac gets installed onto the Idealstor Backup Appliance or any Windows Server. Ibac allows end users to backup the servers and desktops on their network and functions without the use of remote agents. Ibac backs up data in its native format allowing data to be viewed on the backup server without the use of additional backup software. The only additional agent that is required is Ibac Open Volume Snapshot (OVS), which allows end users to backup open files and database files.
Ben Ginster, Channel Manager for Idealstor, commented on the release of Ibac. “Over the last few years, we have been working with our hardware clients to install the Idealstor Backup Appliance while using their existing backup software. Although many software vendors claim to work in any environment and can easily backup to disk, we found that most of our customers were unhappy with their backup software in one way or another. The issues our clients were facing ended up being for the most part consistent across the board.”
Some of these issues were:
Communication errors between remote agent and server licenses
Administrative headaches of having to upgrade and maintain many different backup licenses (Upgrade from version 7.0, 8.0, 9.0…) for all their servers.
Expensive agents that were required to backup SQL and Exchange.
Unnecessary network bandwidth and server load by backing up files that have not changed since the last backup.
Needing a license of backup software to read data that is backed up onto the Idealstor drives .
Repeated errors and failed backups when using open file agents
“With this in mind we set out to develop our own software that would simplify backing up to disk and solve our client’s problems. Ibac Data Protection Software has all the attributes our clients were looking for and more. Ibac has the ability to backup to disk without the use of remote agents and also requires no expensive agents to backup SQL or Exchange. We even went a few steps further and developed a backup software that does not put data into a proprietary format and allows our clients to see and use the backup data from the backup media. Ibac is very user friendly and works great when having to restore data because you see the file as it was on the original server. Ibac is easy to use, easy to maintain and upgrade and intuitive for even the most novice user”
Ibac is currently available for release worldwide and is available through Idealstor’s network of resellers and distributors. For more information on Ibac, please refer to: www.idealstor.com/software/ibac.html

Gaithersburg, MD – Idealstor, the manufacturer of the Idealstor removable disk to disk backup device, today announced that its parent company Nezzen Systems has been awarded a Federal Government General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule contract, number GS-35F-0563P.
The GSA’s Federal Supply Schedules are contracts that allow federal employees to purchase services and products directly from commercial suppliers at pre-negotiated rates. GSA Contracting Officers award Schedule contracts to companies that meet strict criteria for quality and competitive pricing. This eliminates the cumbersome and lengthy bidding process for awarding government contracts and assures quality and consistency among government vendors.
“Being awarded a GSA schedule means that Idealstor meets some very high standards,” says Ben Ginster Channel Manager for Idealstor. “We are honored to receive this contract, and look forward to working directly with the growing number of government agencies facing increasing data and shrinking backup windows.”
“Backing up data is of particular importance to many areas of the Federal Government.”, Mr. Ginster adds. “The unique benefit we provide is that the Government can meet regulatory compliance for offsite data without the need of a two stage backup process requiring the use of disk and tape to take the data offsite. Idealstor is a fully functional backup server and backup device that allows a client to eject the hard drives from the Idealstor removable bays so the client can take the drives offsite.”

Nezzen Systems splits off Enterprise Storage Division to Create a Separate Entity Known as Idealstor – Ejectable Disk to Disk Backup Appliance
Gaithersburg, MD – 01/01/2003 – Nezzen Systems, a leading systems integrator, today announced the creation of a wholly owned subsidiary designed to target the backup needs of the enterprise storage market. Idealstor, as this new entity will be known, has developed a truly unique backup appliance that allows for storage backups using ejectable IDE disks. This new spin on backup gives corporate IT Departments the ability to take advantage of the speed benefits provided by disks and the flexibility of off site storage usually provided only by tapes.
Idealstor was developed by Nandan Arora, Head Engineer and Chief Developer for Nezzen Systems. “For years our clients were complaining about tape based backup solutions and the problems tape created for network backups.” said Mr. Arora, “Our client’s needed the flexibility of offsite storage that tape provided, but could no longer afford to wait for the long backup windows and time to restore associated with this inflexible backup medium. This is how we came up with the idea to develop a disk to disk backup solution using IDE disks, IDE-alstor.”
