Idealstor Upgrades Data Protection Software
New versions further improve Ibac, a comprehensive, cost-effective software platform for backup, recovery, and high availability
GAITHERSBURG, MD— October 24, 2005—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup solutions, has announced the release of two new modules to the company’s data protection software are now available to customers. Idealstor’s Server Aliasing Module (SAM) and Backup Versioning Module (BVM), two optional components for Ibac, Idealstor’s data protection software, have been upgraded to match the evolving needs of customers and further enhance their product line.
The introduction of SAM adds to Ibac high availability and failover capabilities for Windows Servers, eliminating the need for third-party products to be used alongside Ibac for these purposes. It includes “many-to-one” failover capabilities, to assist users in the event that multiple servers go down. The module continually monitors an organization’s servers, alerting systems managers via email notifications if any have crashed. Because SAM provides manual control server failovers, it allows users to verify if any are actually down before taking action, often averting missteps caused by over-automated processes.
BVM is a module designed to save on disk space by creating multiple full backups and saving them in the amount of disk space required to store an incremental. BVM allows users to run incremental backups and save any changed files in a separate folder corresponding to that date or moment in time. Thereafter, the module virtualizes any unchanged files from the original full backup to the new folder to create a new full backup. This makes it appear and provides the same pathways as if a full backup was run, all accomplished in the same time as an incremental backup usually requires. Additionally, BVM drastically reduces restoration times because users can restore any file in a click, from any of the folders created for historical purposes, rather than searching through incremental backup tapes looking for a file. BVM brings the functionality of single instance storage, a feature usually found only on the highest-end solutions, to the small to medium size business.
“Our customers provide us constant feedback on our offerings, and increasingly, based on the success they’ve achieved with our products, they are asking us to play a greater overall role in their backup and storage strategies,“ said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor. “These modules essentially answer a direct call from Idealstor customers for specific functionality like historical backups and high availability assurance. Our customers are pleased that they can now turn to us for as a single source for a comprehensive, high quality solution – and we’re proud to have earned that trust.”
