GAITHERSBURG, MD—May 1, 2006—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of ejectable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today the release of Idealstor SATA, a backup and recovery system with ejectable SATA hard drives that increases backup speed. Idealstor is offering SATA as an additional option for customers and will continue to produce the company’s original Backup Appliance with PATA disks, providing clients with the flexibility to choose which type of backup best fits their disaster recovery needs.
The release of this product is a direct result of an increase in customer requests for a SATA based appliance. Increasingly, SATA is being perceived in the market as the future of backup and storage, and through this release, Idealstor is demonstrating its commitment to the support of such evolving technologies. Idealstor expects the offering to be welcomed by those seeking a single vendor source for their current and future backup needs.
Compared to its original offering based on PATA or IDE drives, the new SATA offering increases backup speeds from approximately 50/Mb/second/disk to up to 150Mb/second/disk. Support for SATA will be added across Idealstor’s entire line of products, and on the Idealstor Backup Appliance, will be offered in configurations from 1 bay (500GB) of storage up to 8 bays (4.0TB). Its FrankeNAS product will also include support for SATA RAID and SATA ejectable disk backups.
Idealstor’s use of SATA drives also will speed operations on its FrankeNAS device, a NAS-like appliance including a fully redundant RAID 5 Array combined with the removable drive functionality of the Idealstor Backup Appliance. Users will now be able to migrate their data from the storage component of the FrankeNAS to the ejectable disks faster than they could with Idealstor’s PATA appliance, and much faster than with most other competing solutions on the market.
