Outline for Failover Module – Server Aliasing Module (SAM)
Idealstor Server Aliasing Module (SAM) is a replication and high availability solution that provides failover for mission critical servers in times of server failure. SAM is used in addition to the Idealstor Backup Appliance and Ibac Data Protection Software and allows users to perform a manual failover of a downed server to the Idealstor Appliance using the data from the most recent Ibac backup job. SAM can failover many servers to one Idealstor Appliance in case of multiple outages.
How does SAM Work?
SAM functions by keeping a heartbeat between the Idealstor Appliance and the mission critical servers to determine if the server is fully functional. As soon as the heartbeat is broken between servers and 5 (can be changed) intervals passes with no communication between servers, SAM will send an email out to the administrator notify of a server outage. When it is determined that the server is actually down, the backup administrator simply needs to go into the SAM takeover center and drag and drop the server from the network side to the Idealstor Appliance. Within seconds the Idealstor will take over the identity and assume the role of the downed server and your data and server will be available to the network.
When the downed server has been repaired and is fully functional, administrators can simply schedule downtime in the evening and fail back the server functionality from the Idealstor to the production server.
SAM is a complete high availability and failover solution that provides:
Failover for a downed server to the Idealstor Backup Appliance or any Windows Server |
Many to one failover to the Idealstor Appliance in case of multiple outages |
Manually failover Exchange, SQL or any Windows Server |
Replicate data between servers and failover from one server to another |
Monitor all servers using a 1 second interval heartbeat to determine server status |
Instant recovery - users will be up and running in minutes instead of hours off of your backup server |
